Ready to play Go?

posted Jan 14, 2014, 3:52 AM by Greg Smith

It's been a while since you've played go, right? Now is a great time to relearn what you forgot, to meet old friends, or just to have a little fun. Start to fulfill that New Year's Resolution...

Bring your friends and let's play Go!

This Thursday (1/16) starting at 6:30pm at my house!

I'll provide snacks and drinks.

Let's make an evening of it!

Let's Play August 15!

posted Aug 9, 2013, 7:39 AM by Greg Smith

How many people want to play?

Let's meet at Barnes & Noble August 15 for more games and teaching go.

I'll have a lot to talk about from the US Go Congress in Tacoma, and there's a Mississippi tournament being planned in the background.

Come find out what's happening!

Games tonight at my house

Email for address and directions.

I have enough room for everyone to play comfortably. Come on over for snacks, drinks, and games of go!

Only 5 miles from Barnes & Noble...

May 16

See you at Barnes and Noble on May 16!

We haven't quite reached that momentum stage mostly because people decide to come out on different days. I'm guessing we have at least 15-30 go players in the area. What would it take for everyone to come out on the same day?

Next Meeting April 25

posted Apr 13, 2013, 5:39 AM by Greg Smith

I hope everyone is having a great April! I'll be at Barnes & Noble on April 25th. I just found out I'll be out of town this Thursday. Let me know if you want to have a go club meeting without me and I'll announce it here.

Go Today and schedule into April

The good news is: We're playing go tonight.

Barnes and Noble at the Renaissance in Ridgeland: 6:30-8:30 - PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND!
Teaching, learning, playing together. MASS HYSTERIA! Not quite like cats and dogs playing together. But still super fun!

It's been a busy spring with continued (and continuous) travel for me and I know meetings have been a little spotty.

Here's the schedule for the next few meetings:
3/28 Oh, it's on!
4/4 Sadly, no go :-(
4/11 No go. Preparations for annual film festival in Jackson -
4/19 YES! Sleepy go (where your host is recovering but probably still sleepy!)
After that, we should resume more regular meetings. If you're interested in a game at any other time, let me know :-)
I hope to see you tonight!

Next meeting in two weeks!

I hope everyone is doing well. We'll get back to playing go at Barnes & Noble in two weeks on March 28. Until then, I hope you're able to study and learn!

See you across the board, very soon...

Go game available in the Jackson Metro area!

There are three copies of "Classic Go Game-Set" at Barnes & Noble. It's very hard to tell the size, but it appears to be maybe 14-15 inch folding board/case and plastic stones. If so, it's not quite full size, but it appears better than the 12 inch boards out there. It's a full 19x19, so you can play a standard game. Just in time for Thanksgiving holidays with the family!

Here's a link to the game at for more information and a look at what's inside.

Great meeting tonight!

Thanks to everyone that came out! It was a great pre-Thanksgiving go meeting. A wide range of players from beginner (25kyu)  to mid-level (5kyu) and everyone got a decent game in. I'm always looking to improve everyone's experience, but the number one priority I think for everyone is playing go at the desired level of challenge.

Mission succeeded!
